ACCEL DFI Knowledgebase Question:
I replaced the stock injectors with new Accel 150832 fuel injectors. I modified the PCM injector constant from 24.97lb to 32lb to reflect the new Accel injectors.
With the injector constant changed for the new injectors my car has a hard time starting, this is not normal for my vehicle. My car has always started within one complete revolution of the engine, I could bump the starter and the car would start.
Now with the 32lb injectors the car starts like crap. I have to crank the starter for a minimum of about 6 - 8 seconds before the car will start and then it takes another 5 - 6 seconds before it begins to idle.
It acts like it is not getting enough prime - if I put the car to 1200 RPM and turn off the ignition while holding the throttle (priming the engine in essence) my car will start quicker the next time with the 32lb
injector setting, but still requires 4 - 5 seconds before it will start.
I have checked the fuel pressure, it is 44lbs at idle with the vacuum line disconnected and at 36lbs at idle with the vacuum line connected, these are definately within tolerances.
I have had several replies on message boards stating that this is a common problem with Accel injectors and I should get SVO's instead. After spending $300 on these new injectors I would expect the my car to start normally and not have the issues with starting.
Thoughts? Fix? Refund?
I use TunerCat to modify the PCM. Other than the transmission shift points the PCM is stock except of course for the 32lb injector constant.
