It need to be tuned to run the different engines. That ECU is also set up to run either an HEI ignition or IPU type distributor such as a MSD or flying magnet type. That is a possible problem, among other things. Being that the system has been passed around, and also quite old, its hard to tell what the problems could be. Check out your ignition and see what you are running, let me know and we can take it from there.
